Hi Friends,
The Irish Cultural
Dinner and auction was loads of fun. The proceeds from the
silent auction were earmarked for An Elderly Wish Foundation.
We are now $2100 dollars richer!! We
were also encouraged to apply for a $1500 grant from
the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Club by March 16th. It was
submitted and we will hear from them in mid-April.
THE BIGGEST NEWS is
that once again East Bay Community Funds and Sharon Beswick
have granted AEWF $15,000 from the Beswick Family Fund
for 2005-2006. This is wonderful news!!
On a sad note Dorris
Potter, Wish #39, our lady who went to Hawaii has passed
away. I will send a note to her husband, Lane, from all
of us. Barbara Jackson, our speaker at Heart to Heart, has been
in Doctor's
Hospital in San Pablo this last month. She got pneumonia
but she is on the road to recovery. Keep her in your prayers!
I got a call yesterday
that a wish application is coming for a gentleman in Brentwood.
Let me know if you would like to help in some way. VNA
Hospice has asked us to speak to their
volunteers on March 24th. Sunrise of Danville has called about an event in April they would like us to
attend.
Our next monthly meeting is April 14th at 6:00 pm at Rivertown
Resource.
Remember to tell everyone
about our foundation and let me know if we can do a
presentation with our video. If you need brochures I
have plenty in the office. Spread the word!! We have money for wishes!!

[top] March 3, 2005 Thanks to everyone who came to the Heart
to Heart "wrap-up" meeting
last Thursday. All expressed that we had another successful
event and some are ready to begin planning for 2006. There
were great suggestions made to improve on this year which
we will try to incorporate. The best news is that we cleared
approximately $19,000. The final total will be announced
at our next meeting on March 10th. Thanks again to everyone
who helped and attended the fundraiser and most of all
helped with the clean-up.
Our meeting on Thursday, March 10th will be at 6:00 pm
at Rivertown Resource. The meeting is open to all Friends
of the Elderly but it is mandatory for the new Board of
Directors. No new wishes to date.
Next week, March 8th & 9th, Jim Lanter and Mary Chapman
will be attending a California Association of Non-Profits
conference in Sacramento and on March 10th Sharon Beswick
and grant writer Rhonda Chaikin will be going to a Funders
Fair at the Marriott in Walnut Creek. We should come away
with all kinds of ideas and future planning ideas for AEWF
to share with all of you.
MARCH 12th is the Irish Cultural Fdn's Dinner Dance at
Crow Canyon Country Club. The tickets are $50 each. All
the proceeds from their Silent Auction have been designated
for AEWF thanks to the suggestion of Wayne and Marilyn
Weible. Call or e-mail me if you can attend. I think it
would be nice if a few of us supported their event since
they are supporting us. Let me know by this weekend.
Thanks!

February 16, 2005 Hi Friends of the Elderly
It
has been suggested to have a "wrap up" meeting
next week while the event is still fresh
in our minds. Sharon has decided to schedule the meeting
for 5:30 on Thursday, February 24th.
It will be at Rivertown Resource and we will
only meet for about a hour because there is another meeting
scheduled for that night. This will
give us an opportunity to evaluate the event and make
suggestions for next year. Be thinking about what you liked,
didn't like or what you would like to
see next year. Maybe after the meeting we could
plan to meet at Celia's for dinner. Brenda already has
an idea if you can believe it!!
Thanks again for all your hard work.
More later!

All of the current Board Members should have gotten a
letter concerning the formation of a Governing Board of
Directors (6 or 7) which will be meeting twice a month
indefinitely. This reorganization will be effective as
of the January 20th meeting. The meeting will be held at
the office of Jim Lanter at 716 W. 2nd St. (757-7941).
Please let Sharon Beswick know of your decision to continue
on the Board or if you would rather continue to stay active
on one of the committees. The committes are Public Relations,
Wish Committee and Fundraising (Special Events and Grants).
If you would like to co-chair a committee let Sharon know.
All of us are on the Friends of the Elderly Committee.
I have attached the Agenda for Thursday's meeting. Please
call the office if you have any questions.
Thanks to those of you who have been busily at work on
the "details" of the Heart to Heart Ball. I can't
believe it is almost here. We are just about sold out!!
Brenda is finalizing the decorations detail, Martha the
program detail, and Linda White the thankyou letter detail.
Thanks too to Teresa Hein for getting the envelopes labeled
for mailing. Let the office know if you are coming to the
event if I have not heard from you as yet and if you have
any cash or gift donations for the auction.
If you get Channel 57, CNN News Update channel, be sure
to look at the Local Edition segment on Jan. 18th, 7:24
am or Jan 19th at 7:24 pm or Jan 20th at 8:54 am or 6:54
pm and you will see yours truly.
Our Treasurer Cindy Evans has a serious ankle injury. Surgery
was ruled out but she is hobbling around taking care of
three children. Martha is recuperating nicely but still
not 100%. She and Roger really appreciated the dinners
that were provided. Say a prayer for Jim Davis' mom who
is recuperating from a broken arm, elbow and shoulder and
Susan Davis' dad too.
Thanks for all your support of AEWF.

Hi All,
Wish
# 39 for Dorris Potter was completed this morning with
her flight out of the Oakland Airport
to Maui. She and her husband Lane flew with North
American Airlines who donated the tickets. AEWF paid for
the roundtrip
shuttle service to and from Oakley, and we gave them a
$500 Visa debit card
to help with some of the expenses for meals. Thanks to
Heidi Branson for
getting the papers signed for AEWF, to Mary Peinado from
the Antioch Press
for interviewing Dorris for next week's edition, and to
Malia List from
Anna's Program for contacting us about the wish. I went
by yesterday with a
corsage and the itinerary for their trip.
Wish
#40 for Frances Tripp will be completed Thursday, January
20th at
Rossmoor. We are granting her a computer, hard drive and
a printer. She is
housebound so she wanted a newer computer to continue to
e-mail family and
keep up with what is happening in the world. Ray Dupire,
computer teacher
from Antioch Senior Center, will be going over to install
the computer.
Thanks
to Teresa Griffith for getting the papers signed for AEWF
and thanks
to Paula Burch from Hospice and Palliative Care for contacting
us about the
wish.
The
Rossmoor News will be on hand to do an article for us.
Let me know
if you would like to be on the Wish Committee for the
next couple of wishes
that come our way.
Phil
Arndt from Comcast aked me to do an interview about AEWF
on the Local Edition Show (Channel 57) following CNN five minutes before
the hour. The
interview will be during January at different times of
the day. Yesterday I
got a call from the manager of the Walnut Creek Yacht Club
to see what they could donate and a gentleman from Moraga
called for an address so he could
send a donation. I sent a note to Phil thanking him for
his help. Let me
know if you want to help with Public Relations by showing
the video to a
group or making some phone calls to perspective groups
that sho
If
you plan to attend the Heart to Heart Ball I would suggest
getting your reservation in right
away. They are going fast!! If you would like to sit with certain people list their name on the back of your
reservation card. If you will be making reservations for guests please list their names on the back of the reservation card with a S or P, for meal choice, next to their name. Gift Donations are slowly coming in but I need your
help! If you frequent a business (florist, restaurant, health club, spa, beauty shop, clothes store, ) please
ask them for a donation. If any of you have a friend with a timeshare or cabin somewhere please ask if they
would donate a weekend or week stay for us. REMEMBER all Friends of the Elderly will meet at 6:00 pm or after
on FEBRUARY 11th to help set up the Nick Rodriquez Community Center for the event. Bring scissors, big staplers, two
or three dishtowels to donate to the cause, a step ladder or larger, if you have one, and your sense of humor. This cannot be done without your
help!! If anyone is free in the afternoon of the 11th around 4:00 pm, please come to the office to help pack up and move dishes, silverware, glasses,
gifts, booz, auction signs etc. (Brenda, will the Senior Bus be available to move things< to the ASC??)
Look forward to seeing all of you soon.
