April 2001 Newsletter

From the Chairman…
Under the direction of Susan Hurl, the Board has been busy launching a public relations campaign. Letters and brochures have been mailed to Hospice workers, senior homes, nursing homes and hospitals.

Our PowerPoint presentation, along with a new promotional video, are educating the care workers about the mission of our foundation. Our hope is, as more and more professionals learn about An Elderly Foundation, we will be able to make final wishes come true for more and more terminally ill seniors in Contra Costa.

If you know of an organization that would like to have a presentation given to their organization, please call: 925-978-1883.

Another Final Wish Comes True!

Neal Williams from Byron had a final wish which his Hospice nurse passed on to Board Member, Martha Henry. His wish was to go fishing one more time. Martha immediately called “fisherman extraordinaire”, “Compy” Compomizzo, to see if he would be able to make Neal’s wish come true.

Neal was very excited as the plans were set in motion for a day on the river with his wife, Midge. A fishing vest and hats were bought, and Crystal Clear Logos happily put the logo of An Elderly Wish Foundation on the garments at no charge. Jim Conley, a Friend of the Elderly, provided the fishing licenses and stamps. Guy Stark from AT&T Broadband agreed to videotape the entire event and John Lovejoy, from The Daily Ledger, covered the story and got a picture.

On March 15th, Neal and his brother, Ralph, joined “Compy” and Mike Enos out on the river for five hours. Mike said, “It was a good thing they brought Neal out because he was the only one catching fish.”

Box lunches, compliments of Ricks on Second, were enjoyed by all. After a catch of about six catfish Neal wanted to end the day but looks forward to another trip with “Compy” very soon.

We were so happy to be able to bring such joy to Neal and his family. We were especially glad to help someone here in East County.
